Five Takeaways From The Mavericks Series Saving Win

The Dallas Mavericks avoid a sweep, dismantling the Boston Celtics for a 122-84 Game 4 victory

Five Takeaways from the Mavericks' Series-Saving Win

Historic Comeback Still Unlikely, but Mavericks Keep Season Alive

After three dismal performances to open the 2024 NBA Finals, the Dallas Mavericks finally broke through for their first victory of the series against the Boston Celtics. Playing their best two-way basketball of the postseason, the Mavericks snapped Boston's 12-game playoff winning streak with a dominant 122-84 victory in Game 4.

Explosive First Half Sets the Tone

The Mavericks' offense exploded in the first half, posting an incredible 76.1 offensive rating. They shot 57.1% from the field and 40.0% from three-point range, building a 20-point lead by halftime. The Celtics, known for their stingy defense, were unable to keep up with the Mavericks' offensive onslaught.

Balanced Scoring Attack Fuels the Win

The Mavericks' victory was a true team effort, with six players scoring in double figures. Luka Dončić led the way with 30 points, but he received plenty of support from his teammates. Spencer Dinwiddie added 25 points, Christian Wood contributed 20 off the bench, and Tim Hardaway Jr. chipped in 17.

Defensive Domination Stifles Celtics

The Mavericks' success wasn't limited to the offensive end. They also played outstanding defense, holding the Celtics to just 84 points. The Mavericks forced 18 turnovers and held the Celtics to 36.8% shooting from the field.

Historic Blowout Gives Mavericks Glimmer of Hope

The 38-point final margin was the third-biggest ever in an NBA Finals game, trailing only Chicago's 42-point victory over Utah in 1998 and the Celtics' 36-point win over the Lakers in 2008. The lopsided win gives the Mavericks a glimmer of hope as they head back to Boston for Game 5, still trailing 3-1 in the series.
